Willy Chavarria is from the San Joaquin Valley of California where he grew up in a small community of immigrant farm laborers. At an early age, he realized his love for art and commerce. He studied graphic design at the Academy of Art University, where he worked with Nicholas Graham on the creation of the Joe Boxer brand. He was later offered a designer position at Ralph Lauren and worked there under Jerry Lauren and Buffy Birrittella for five years learning the detail of luxury design.

He then moved to American Eagle Outfitters as design director during the company’s strongest growth period, between 2002-2012. After opening a multi-brand menswear shop in SoHo, New York in 2010, the designer developed relationships with Japanese retailers including the Baycrews Corporation, which asked him to design his eponymous collection for Journal Standard stores in Tokyo in the fall of 2016. Since then, Chavarria has grown his label to distribute in more than 30 top-tier retailers globally.

Willy Chavarria is a CFDA Member since 2021.
