Sigrid Olsen

Artist and designer, Sigrid Olsen began her career in the early eighties as a textile designer with a penchant for color and resort clothing. She was educated at Montserrat college of Art and became a weaver shortly after graduating in 1974. She developed a technique of printmaking on fabric with hand-cut stamps cut from potatoes and later from more permanent rubber blocks. Having developed this artistry into her distinctive print and fashion collections she later became known for the texture and detail of her signature knitwear and sweaters.
Her company was purchased by apparel giant Liz Claiborne in 1999 where it grew to be found in every major department store, small specialty stores and over 50 company owned retail locations across America. Licenses for bedding, bath linens, hand bags, jewelry and eyewear were added.

In early 2008, Liz Claiborne chose to shutter the Sigrid Olsen business and close all retail stores, retaining the Sigrid Olsen trademark. Today Sigrid has returned to her roots to manage her website and art gallery where she sells original paintings, paperie and hand-painted ceramics. She also has developed “inspiration retreats” that offer island get-aways as a transformative experience that combines mind/body wellness with creativity workshops and inspirational speaking.

Her non-compete period extends until 2010 at which time she plans to emerge with a new brand.
