Salvatore J. Cesarani

No stranger to the sports suit, which he pioneered in the 1970s, Sal Cesarani just inked a new deal for a collection of sports sweater separates and fine men’s sweaters. Cesarani, who is president of S.J.C. Concepts, is partnering with William Fung of Canada-based LOFT 604 on the licensed Cesarani brown label, which is slated to launch for spring 2016. Looks are inspired by themes such as Athletics, Marina, Mountain, and Tennis, and will be made with natural fibers such as cotton, silk, cashmere, linen and cashmere blends. The collection will be priced at wholesale from $90 to $175.

“In addition to the hallmarks of fine craftsmanship with a newer silhouette and creative styling, I have always firmly believed that menswear must embody real function and versatility in every category,” the designer and CFDA Member said. “This collection marries all of these timeless principles in a way that the new generation of American and Canadian men will admire and truly appreciate.”

It’s another move in Cesarani’s career, which has spanned over four decades. Known for his pattern and textural play, he designed the ceremonial uniforms for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He is also active in philanthropy, supporting such organizations as the Bowery Mission and Caring for Carcinoid, which raises funds to find a cure for cancer (Nancy Cesarani, his wife of almost 50 years, passed away from carcinoid cancer in 2011). Cesarani also teaches as an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design.
