Peter Som

Peter Som’s aesthetic of bold sophistication and eclectic elegance brings a fresh point of view to the fashion world. The San Francisco native began drawing at a young age – inspired by his architect parents and the laid-back elegance of the Bay Area. Today, Peter continues to draw from these early influences as he designs clothes for confidently elegant women. Known for his signature bold prints, Peter’s designs are feminine, quirky yet classic. In Peter’s world, social eccentrics like Peggy Guggenheim and Edie Beale stand alongside creative minds like Diane Arbus and Cecil Beaton.

Peter graduated with a degree in Art History from Connecticut College in 1993 and continued his studies at Parsons School of Design where he was a recipient of the Isaac Mizrahi Gold Thimble Award. Upon graduation, Peter honed his skills in the design room of the legendary Bill Blass.

The 2001 Peter debuted his namesake collection with a show at Bryant Park. Twice-nominated for the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent, Peter was among the 10 semi finalists in the first ever Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund initiative.

Peter was appointed Creative Director of women’s wear for Bill Blass from 2007 to 2008. He served as a consultant for Tommy Hilfiger from 2009 to 2012, designing the women’s runway collection. In 2011

In 2011 Peter’s interest in interior design resulted in a line of luxury bedding with famed home linens company Sferra and also his most recent collaboration with Surya Rugs. He was also approached by Anthropologie and launched a very successful ready-to-wear collection for the brand for the Spring 13 season under their Made in Kind initiative. In January 2014, the Les Copains Group announced Peter Som as the official designer for the contemporary Blue Collection beginning with the Spring/Summer 2015 Collection. He also was selected as the latest guest designer in Kohl’s DesigNation series, which launched in April 2014 to great commercial success.

Peter’s clothes continue to win accolades from buyers and critics alike and are regularly featured in major fashion publications, including Vogue, W, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and InStyle. A generation of stylish celebrities have embraced Peter’s collection, among them Allison Williams, Kate Mara, Jessica Alba, Rachel McAdams, Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ginnifer Goodwin, Julie Bowen, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler.
