Matt Murphy

Matt Murphy has his collective footing in the worlds of art, fashion, design, commerce, and entertainment, providing his studio with informed inspiration from an eclectic mix of knowledge to produce inventive design solutions for its diverse client base. Based in New York City, Matt Murphy Design prides itself on providing results-driven work, covering integrated branding, event and exhibition design, product and accessories design, and more.

Matt Murphy was first recognized for his luxury Handbags and Leathergoods. Since then, his studio’s expanded scope of work has grown to include the creation of effective graphic branding systems for new and existing companies and institutions, as well as packaging, retail and restaurant environments, accessories, furniture, interiors, and other products.

Evolving out of Murphy’s concept of portable architecture, his premiere collection of Handbags and Leathergoods has been featured at Maxfield, Fred Segal, Colette, and other luxury retailers in the US, Europe, and Japan. His collections combine luxury, utility and a distinctive style, and are still a favorite of artists and celebrities, and have been featured in magazines, books, films, and television.

Murphy’s co-branded global collection of retail accessories for M.A.C. Cosmetics underscored the commercial value of his versatility as a designer; evolving a brand category in identity and product on an international scale. He has designed products and collections for Lagerfeld Gallery Paris, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Kimberly McDonald Home, The Whitney Museum, Disney, W Hotels Worldwide, The Wall Street Journal, and Condé Nast.

Branding and marketing projects include Le Citizen, a boutique hotel in Paris; several art exhibition collaborations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and at Art Basel Miami. Clean-sheet development projects include the naming, branding, packaging, and digital platform for Sel Magique, a luxury food company; as well as the branding and packaging of a new masstige food brand, the launch of a new lifestyle nutriceutical brand, and growing the event business of Tom Colicchio’s Riverpark, with comprehensive digital and print marketing tools.
