Elizabeth Locke

Elizabeth Locke brings to her designs a background rich in culture and experience. With a degree in gemology and six years as a contributing editor at “Town & Country” magazine, Elizabeth uses her unique viewpoint to create timeless jewelry that is completely hand crafted.

Elizabeth Locke’s pieces require constant global forays to search out the components used in her designs. “this is really an international effort” she notes/ The glass intaglios are made in Venice from original 17th –century molds. The ancient coins, 18th-century Chinese gambling counters and antique elements are found in London. Tahiti provides South Sea pearls, while Jaipur, India, and Idar- Oberstein, Germany, are the sources of the unusual cabochon stones she favors.

With the raw ingredients and her sketches stashed in a well-worn bag, Elizabeth heads to Bangkok several times a year, where she supervises the creation of her collection by her group of highly skilled Thai goldsmiths, using techniques that haven’t changed in centuries. “I love the fact that my things are completely handmade. They look like they’ve been hammered out of a gold ingot rather than extruded from a machine.” All of Elizabeth’s pieces are crafted from a signature 19k gold alloy and have distinctive neo-classical appearance. Many of the jewels are one-of-a-kind.

The scale of the collection is large, and the color palette arresting. Elizabeth’s designs are meant to be worn every day, not relegated to life in a vault. “I appreciate jewels that are beautifully made and also unusual, jewels that will give the wearer daily enjoyment and will become an intrinsic part of her style.”

Today, Elizabeth Locke Jewels currently has two stores in Manhattan and Boyce, Virginia, and is available at Neiman Marcus nationwide.
