Charles Nolan

The eponymous c h a r l e s n o l a n label is a true reflection of the man; taking into account his love of the arts, politics, design and whimsy. A native New Yorker and FIT graduate, Charles Nolan has arrived as one of America’s top fashion designers. His clothing is meant to empower women of every age aiming to make them feel beautiful, feminine and confident.

After apprenticing with Bill Blass and Christian Dior, among others, Mr. Nolan joined Ellen Tracy in 1990, becoming its chief designer and taking it from a well regarded clothing manufacturer to a significantly more successful fashion label. By the time he departed in 2001, Ellen Tracy had been number one in its market for six years. Recognizing his talent, he was selected to rejuvenate Anne Klein. In short order, the buzz was indeed back, and the company, reemerged from bankruptcy, was sold.
The time had come to work for himself. The inaugural c h a r l e s n o l a n collection opened with an exclusive and six windows at Saks Fifth Avenue in September, 2004. Since then it has grown to include shoes and bespoke menswear.
Along the way, Nolan was elected to membership in the Council of Fashion Designers. His own shop, which he designed in every detail (even the furniture, which is for sale), opened in Manhattan’s venerable meatpacking district in December of 2008; winning Fashion Group Internationals’ rising star award for retail store of the year.

Now nearly 5 years later c h a r l e s n o l a n is offered at leading department stores and numerous specialty stores across the United States. Along with expanding the brand Charles continues to give back to the community by working alongside such organizations as FINCA, Women in Need and Dress for Success. In addition, he sponsors the American Ballet Theater’s Junior Council and designed the costumes and props for their ballet “Cake” (2008).
