Ashley Olsen

CEO of Dualstar Entertainment Group, Ashley Olsen has established herself as one of the fashion industry’s most influential young designers at the age of 24. In 2009, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) named Ashley and Mary-Kate members of the prestigious organization, making them two of the youngest members ever inducted. In March 2011, Ashley and Mary-Kate received a CFDA Award nomination in the category of “Swarovski Award for Womenswear” on behalf of The Row. This March, they received their second nomination for “Womenswear Designer of the Year” on behalf of The Row.

In 2007, Ashley co-created The Row, a luxury apparel and accessories brand, with Mary-Kate. Taking its name from the historic Savile Row, the brand strives to offer an updated concept of bespoke tailoring to modern-day basics. The Row’s style philosophy overlooks trends, placing a sharp focus rather on clean, classic lines, ultra-refined silhouettes and perfect fits. The Row apparel is 100% manufactured in the USA, selling internationally in over seventy of the most exclusive retailers in the world such as Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Maxfields (USA), Lane Crawford (China), Maria Luisa (France), and The Wall (Japan.) In the Fall of 2009, The Row grew to include men’s wear, launched sunglasses in Spring 2010 and will launch their first handbag collection in Fall 2011. Last year, The Row presented their first runway presentation for the Fall/Winter 2010 collection. Later that year, The Row presented the Spring 2011 Collection during Paris Fashion Week to rave reviews.

Also in 2007, Ashley and Mary-Kate introduced the contemporary fashion label Elizabeth and James. As Co-designers, Ashley and Mary-Kate seek to narrow the gap between designer and contemporary fashions. Elizabeth and James now encompasses; womenswear, jewelry, women’s shoes, sunglasses, menswear, and recently launched TEXTILE Elizabeth and James, a casual offshoot of the brand. The lifestyle collection offers a trend conscious design sensibility at a contemporary price. The collection is carried by top tier department stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Harvey Nichols, Lane Crawford, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom,specialty stores and is available in over 35 countries worldwide.

In February 2010, Ashley and Mary-Kate launched Olsenboye, a young contemporary brand, exclusive to JCPenney, catering to the Juniors customer. Olsenboye offers fun, spirited and edgy styles with a wholesome feel. Items from the casual sportswear and accessories brand are currently sold in 600 JCPenney stores in the United States.

Ashley and Mary-Kate’s numerous business endeavors started at an early age with Dualstar Entertainment Group, which was originally founded in 1993. From its inception, Dualstar Entertainment Group, with the direction of Ashley and Mary-Kate, was at the forefront of celebrity brands and was the first to launch a successful “tween” business. This business included apparel, home décor, beauty and other product lines that Dualstar distributed worldwide. Currently, Dualstar Entertainment Group has products distributed in countries all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and many more.

Ashley made her television debut at age nine months, sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on the ABC series “Full House” with her sister, Mary-Kate. The two quickly established themselves as a dominant force in children’s entertainment with the addition of numerous other television projects, home videos, feature films, books and musical albums, achieving unmatched results in each. Ashley also served as executive producer of manyfilmed projects and their soundtrack albums.

Recognized as a fashion icon and global trendsetter, Ashley was featured alone – for the first time – on the cover of the July 2005 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, named “Fashion’s New It Girl.” She appeared on the September 2007 and September 2009 covers of Marie Claire, two of themagazine’s highest selling issues. Fashion critic, Cathy Horyn, established Ashley and Mary-Kate as two of the most talented designers of their generation on the cover of The New York Times Sunday Styles section in 2009. In a profile in the April 2011 issue of Vogue, fashion journalist Sarah Mower stated that Ashley and Mary-Kate could be two of the largest players in mid-twenty-first-century American fashion.

In 2006, Forbes magazine named Ashley and Mary-Kate #5 on their list of the top 20 earners under the age of 25. In Time magazine’s Spring 2004 supplement, “Women in Fashion: Who’s Got the Power?,” Mary-Kate and Ashley were collectively bestowed the #4 slot, just behind Burberry CEO Rose Marie Bravo, designer Miuccia Prada and Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Mary-Kate and Ashley were named “The Most Powerful Young Women in Hollywood” by The Hollywood Reporter, which for four years also named them to its “Power 100” list of the most influential women in Hollywood. In April 2004, Ashley and Mary-Kate received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming two of its youngest recipients.

Ashley Olsen has been a CFDA Member since 2009.
