Adam Kimmel

Adam Kimmel was born and raised in New York. He studied architecture at NYU, while making clothes for his friends on the side. Shortly after graduating, Kimmel moved to Italy to work with tailors and pattern makers and began putting together a small menswear line for FW2004. Colette in Paris immediately picked up the collection, and fashion editors, stylists and photographers began requesting made-to-measure pieces, a response that led him to set up his own atelier in Manhattan’s West Chelsea. Today the Adam Kimmel Collection is distributed in 76 of the best boutiques, specialty retailers and department stores internationally.

Adam creates timeless menswear, with a keen ability to mix comfortable utilitarian work wear with an elegant luxurious feel. It’s this dual strength to embrace the rugged and sophisticated that helps make Adam Kimmel one of the most wearable and masculine brands on the market today. Just as Kimmel has been heralded as spearheading the movement towards the functional luxury that hallmarks the brand, so the designs themselves- the creative tailoring of 3 in 1 coats and reversible garments as well as knitted formalwear and beautiful handmade suits- have been lauded the world over. Rendering his vision of sophisticated bohemia and often interwoven in his sartorial work is Kimmel’s passionate interest in art and film. Often citing artists and art movements as inspiration for his collections, his collaborations have included art world luminaries ranging from George Condo, Gerard Malanga and George Herms to Dan Colen, Ryan McGinley and David Blaine. Drawing on the creative landscape of artists and friends Kimmel’s own understated art has now become a phenomenon in its own right, a movement that shapes more than just the way we dress.
