Altuzarra

Joseph Altuzarra is a multicultural, internationally-educated designer whose background and experience have given him a fresh perspective and refined vision for his New York-based luxury womenswear brand.

Born and raised in Paris by a Chinese-American mother and French father, Joseph headed to the US after high school and graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Art and Art History. He then headed to New York, where he interned at Marc Jacobs, and worked Proenza Schouler. Seeking to master design’s technical underpinnings, he also apprenticed with patternmaker Nicolas Caïto, the former head of the Rochas atelier. Joseph then returned to his native Paris, where he worked as first assistant to Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. Joseph honed his design skills by focusing on tailoring and draping in the ready-to-wear collections.

In 2008, Joseph moved back to New York to launch his own line, Altuzarra. The Altuzarra brand exudes fierce femininity with a masculine edge, is subversive in nature and strongly infused with French influences, the result of which is collections catering to the modern woman who is both strong and fearless.

Joseph was the winner of the coveted 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and most recently, the 2012 Swarovski Award for Womenswear. Other awards include: Fashion Group International Rising Star of the Year, Out 100 Vanguard of the Year, three-time CFDA Award Nominee, Ecco Domani Award, and Forbes 30 under 30.
