“The mission of these awards,” Diane von Furstenberg said about Thursday evening’s 16th DVF Awards, “has always been to support and amplify the voices of women who have demonstrated the courage to fight, the strength to survive, and the leadership to inspire.”
The former Chairman of the CFDA understands these attributes well; in fact she embodies them herself as someone who is always ready to inspire and empower those around her.
This year’s ceremony, hosted by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation Teatro Carlo Goldoni in Venice, the city von Furstenberg has made a home, honored Global Changemakers -women who are devoted to finding solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problem. They included Christy Turlington Burns, the Founder and President of Every Mother Counts, and Kim Kardashian for her work in criminal justice reform.
“This award will help us continue fighting until every mother, everywhere, has the right to enter parenthood feeling safe, supported and centered in her birthing experience,” Turlington Burns said.
Of the commitment to her cause, Kardashian said, “This work is not just about changing laws, but about saving lives. My journey in criminal justice reform is ongoing, and I hope to inspire bigger conversations and create further awareness where everyone can work together on this crucial issue.”
Additional honorees included Sudanese Activist and Emergency Response Room Leader Hanin Ahmed; General Coordinator of COICA anddefender of Indigenous and environmental rights Fany Kuiru Castro, and President of Una Nessuna Centomila and Activist Giulia Minoli.
Von Furstenberg was joined at the Bloomberg Philanthropies-supported ceremony by her husband Barry Diller as well as Tina Brown, Grace Burns, Mark Guiducci, Bryan Lourd, Billie Lourd, Coco Brandolini, Giovanna Engelbert, and more.
The evening’s aim was to highlight “the collective power of women across sectors and borders, united by a shared mission to lead with compassion and drive meaningful progress.”
Mission accomplished – powerfully so.
