For more than two decades, Mimi So has built a reputation for creating jewelry that is both deeply personal and exquisitely crafted. Now, the CFDA member is expanding this world with a new creative chapter: her debut fragrance collection.

The line captures the same spirit of emotion, memory, and craftsmanship that has defined So’s work for years — only this time, it’s through scent.

We caught up with Mimi to discuss the inspiration behind her fragrance, the connection between fragrance and jewelry, and what it means to translate her creative vision into an entirely new medium.

What inspired you to launch into fragrance?

Fine Jewelry has always been my second skin to connect with you, our audience, and a personal expression. Fragrance was always a natural extension of this conversation; it was only a matter of the right timing. I love beauty and all things pretty that make one feel confident and loved like the feeling of jewelry on the wearer.

When I opened our Crosby Street boutique in 2018, we had many young aspirational fans who really want to walk away with a piece of jewelry. It touched me deeply knowing my designs moved them, but I felt sad because I didn’t have anything in the price-point they could walk away with in hand.

Going down-market was never our philosophy because providing “Quality” is a pillar in our brand ethos. So I decided to develop a fragrance, another form of second skin that would be luxurious in smell, touch, and to hold a beautiful jewel in hand or have this gorgeous sculpture sit on your dresser.

How would you describe the ethos of the scents?

The ethos was derived from our three core collections, each sharing a special story of resilience, compassion and love.

Piece is the shape of my childhood window represents the past, present and future. It is our signature scent. She is confident, alluring, sultry and nostalgic.

Wonderland is a whimsical escape where luminous florals meet enchanted gardens and nostalgic warmth. She is curious, and a believer of life possibilities and all that is good.

Jackson is grit, adventurer and courageous. He’s a little naughty, smokey and spicy, while,  underneath, very sweet.

What did you want the scents to convey?

Your true self.

How does fragrance enhance your world of fine jewelry ? Where do you see the intersection of both?

Fragrance enhances my – our – world of fine jewelry because it is an expression of who we are, who we want to become, and what we want to feel.

That intersection of both blends coming together is “very sexy” to me. That form of self-love, even if you are timid the jewelry and the scent together, is your inner voice speaking like another form of language communicating to the universe.

Which one is your personal favorite?

That depends on who I want to be that day or night (wink).
