Melquan Ganzy is a New York-based self-defined conceptual artist who uses photography as his medium. His passion lies in social awareness, and he is advocate for marginalized communities.
What type of a fashion career are you most interested in and why?
I am interested in becoming a creative and copywriter in fashion which will steer my conceptual works into creative direction. My goal is to be a Creative Director for a publication or brand. It will allow me to do what I love most: storytelling and facilitating knowledge-sharing in collaboration with others.
What strengths do you possess that would be of great value to the fashion industry?
My strengths in fashion derive from my experiences as a Black and gay man. Through writing and creativity, I am able to provide alternative perspectives while embracing all of my identities. In all, my greatest strength is storytelling, which is needed more now than ever in fashion.
How do you define fashion?
Fashion is often seen as the glitz and glam; however, fashion is a political platform that mirrors how we feel within. Without substance, there’s no fashion, even if it’s a reflection of society.
CFDA IMPACT was established to further the economic mobility and social inclusion of Black and Brown people in the American fashion industry by expanding access to jobs, providing career development and exploration, and building community among existing and emerging talent in the fashion industry.
