Gabriela Hearst has brought her signature approach to craftsmanship and sustainability designing the official tailored uniforms for Uruguay’s national football team, La Celeste.
Unveiled at Estadio Centenario, the collaboration reflects Hearst’s lifelong connection to her home country. Born in Montevideo and raised on her family’s ranch in Paysandú, the CFDA member drew upon Uruguay’s rich heritage to create made-to-measure tailoring that celebrates both national identity and exceptional craftsmanship.
Each suit is crafted from fine Uruguayan Merino wool sourced from ranches in the country’s north and spun domestically by Lanas Trinidad, showcasing one of Uruguay’s most important natural resources. The project also reinforces Hearst’s longstanding commitment to responsible design, highlighting renewable, traceable, biodegradable, and mulesing-free wool produced through local industry.
By uniting fashion, sport, and sustainability, Hearst’s designs offer a contemporary expression of Uruguayan pride while demonstrating the global influence of American fashion designers.
