CFDA in 2017: Make your Voice Heard

With civil liberties increasingly challenged under this administration, civic responsibility has taken on a new urgency, and we are proud in how we embraced several important causes in 2017.

Our partnership with Planned Parenthood featuring Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood pins for New York Fashion Week: Women’s in February and Men’s in July raised awareness and support for the critical health care that the organization’s centers provide and the millions of Americans it serves each year. The CFDA worked with Board Member Tracy Reese to encourage designers to show off the pins – with much success.

In April, the CFDA also partnered with FWD.us and unveiled a joint report addressing the impact of immigration policy on the United States’ fashion industry, its role in creating American jobs, and changes needed to bolster the future health of the industry. Read the full report here.

Together with the ACLU, we launched a special Fashion for ACLU blue ribbon in time for the women’s collections in September to send a clear message: There is no room for racism, bigotry, and hatred in our democracy.

“We want to be on the front line, not the sidelines, to boldly fight to protect our precious rights and freedoms, which has taken on a renewed urgency after the heart-wrenching events of Charlottesville,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of CFDA. “Our goal is to actively support concrete work that will move our country meaningfully forward. The ACLU is doing that critical work.”
