The nominations ballots for the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards in Partnership with Swarovski landed in the inboxes of the 1,500-plus members of our Awards Guild today with two new awards.
This year, the CFDA will introduce the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, which honors an American individual in the Fashion Industry who has made an impact on American communities and improves the welfare of others through their resources and time. The honoree has demonstrated an ability to herald change in the U.S. and to make a positive impact in civic responsibility, philanthropy and sustainability, among others.
“The Swarovski Award for Positive Change is aligned with CFDA’s efforts in civic responsibility, philanthropy and sustainability, among others,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA.
Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board, added that the new award “reflects the American fashion industry’s honorable propensity toward giving back to the world around them in the context of Swarovski’s heritage in philanthropy.”
In a departure from past years, there will also be a unified Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent that applies to womenswear, menswear and accessory design. The number of nominees will be increased from three to five. Nominees must be American or U.S.-based and have shown their collections for five or less years.
“We recognize that many emerging designers push boundaries across multiple categories, and this is a fantastic opportunity to spotlight designers with multi-faceted visions across womenswear, menswear and accessory design,” Swarovski said.
The 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards, in partnership with Swarovski for the 16th year, will take place at Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday, June 5. The nominees and honorees will be unveiled on March 23.
