The Local Production Fund
About
About
Background
The Local Production Fund is a pilot grant program under the Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI), developed in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). Building on the investment in innovative technology made through the FMI Grant Fund, the Local Production Fund is intended to expand the use of advanced equipment, strengthen relationships between designers and manufacturers, and generate more consistent production opportunities for New York City’s manufacturing sector.
LPF Overview
The program supports brands that are looking to shift a portion of their production (one category) from overseas or out of state to New York City. Brands that already produce the majority of their goods in NYC are also eligible to apply for support to introduce a new production category.
How it Works
Factories apply to participate in the program and, if selected, are included on the list of approved manufacturers. Brands apply separately and are notified if selected. Selected brands review the list of manufacturers and connect directly to confirm a partnership. Once both parties agree, they commit to working together over three consecutive seasons and are formally approved as grantees.
The program provides financial credits that go directly to the manufacturer for production. The production credits are tiered—75% subsidy in the first season, 50% in the second, and 0% in the third.
