Words With (Fashion) Friends: ESTAS Beauty’s Cristina Beltran & Alejandra Thompson

One hundred million people around the world form scars every year, 50 million of which are a result of surgeries. Yet, there were no beauty brands that aimed to treat this demographic – until now.

Two women all too familiar with this issue have teamed up to launch ESTAS Beauty, a new premium skincare brand designed to help scars look their most beautiful and promote a positive body image.

ESTAS, which stands for Every Scar Tells a Story, comes from a personal place for its founders. At age 24, Cristina Beltran went into sudden cardiac arrest and had open-heart triple bypass surgery that left her with a six-inch scar down her chest. Alejandra Thompson, a veteran in the beauty industry, had two c-sections which left her with significant scars.

Frustrated by the lack of luxury skincare products on the market that were dedicated to treat scars, the co-founders took matters into their own hands, collaborating with chemists and top doctors to develop their brand.

“Developing this line was extremely important to me, as I know first-hand the insecurities around having a scar and the lack of skincare products to help care for them,” Beltran said. “Every person should have access to high-quality skincare to make them feel confident in their own skin. Scarring is a part of healing, and we want every person to use our products and feel proud and empowered by their scar.”

The ESTAS Beauty collection is specifically designed to nourish, protect, and hydrate scars with intense moisturization, soft application, and an absorbent formula. Silicone is a key ingredient, which increases hydration and reduces collagen production, itching and discomfort.

And they are just getting started, The company plans to expand their product offerings to include pre-operative skincare next year.

“Scars are a special kind of skin, with special needs that need special attention,” said Thompson. “While scars can vary in size and severity, a common thread with all scars is care: they need hydration, nourishment, and efficacious ingredients to combat common symptoms like redness, itchiness, irregular texture and discoloration.

“To us,” she added, “skincare includes scar care, and scar care should always be an important part of our daily skincare routine.”
