Barbie, the model citizen and fashion icon, is known all over the world. Her endeavors – professional and personal— are closely followed by her fans, and fashion designers, among them many CFDA Members, are clamoring to dress her (she is pictured here wearing Misha Nonoo to the CFDA Fashion Awards).
CFDA.com checked in with Barbie to talk about the advice she has for young women, the way in which creativity in fashion can serve as an inspiration, and the importance of being kind and helping others in life.
CFDA.com: What is your advice for girls today on pursuing their dreams? Barbie: “Believe in yourself. Don’t let other people tell you you can’t do something. Dream big!”
CFDA.com: If there is one message for your fans, what would it be? Barbie: “Try it. If you aren’t sure about an idea, just go for it – you’ll learn either way!”
CFDA.com: You have been to fashion shows in the past. What do you enjoy about the experience? Barbie: “I love to see the amazing ideas and creations that come out of the fashion designers’ minds, some of it is so unique and it helps to give me inspiration for putting my own outfits together.”
CFDA.com: What do you like about American fashion and do you have any favorite designers? Barbie: “I love that fashion is about self-expression and personal style. There are so many talented designers I can’t just choose one! I love mixing cool designer pieces with amazing vintage.”
CFDA.com: What are some of the things you would like to accomplish in the next five years? Barbie: “I like to keep surprising myself with things I want to do and be in my life. Who knows!? One thing I really do want to concentrate on is helping others. I think it’s so important to remember that being kind and helping others is one of the greatest gifts you can also give yourself. There’s a great quote I like that says ‘Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life – it’s about what you inspire others to do.’”
