When prepping for a glamorous event such as our CFDA Fashion Awards, hair and makeup are a key factor. Glamsquad has made the process of getting ready a little bit easier by providing on-demand beauty services.

CFDA partnered with Glamsquad for this year’s Awards, and we caught up with CEO Amy Shecter to get some tips and tricks on how to get a desired look when using Glamsquad’s services and the plans for the company’s future.

As a fashion veteran, you have probably gone to your fair share of glamorous events. What is your go-to look and how do you get inspiration?

My go-to is a simple black dress with fabulous accessories and great hair and makeup. You can’t go wrong with classic, chic and sophisticated.

How does the fashion industry inspire you?

I draw inspiration differently today than I have in the past. Previously, I spent a lot of time on retail sales floors, which I still enjoy, but today, I do most of my browsing online and on social. It’s amazing how technology has impacted our ability to be instantly inspired by visuals from fashion all over the world that we previously didn’t have access to. This extends to music, lifestyle, entertainment and social consciousness as well – all of these amazing outlets inspire creativity that we then translate into our own brand’s DNA.

What is the best way to communicate with a hair or makeup artist in order to achieve a desired look?

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, and nothing is truer when it comes to how to best communicate with your beauty professional. Celebrity photos are great to reference, but the best way to get the results you want is by sharing a photo of yourself from a time you looked and felt amazing. This way, there is no question as to what you’re looking for, and you know you will be happy with the end result.

A big part of the brand ethos is ensuring that clients receive not just services but an experience that is about empowerment. How do you translate that ethos through Glamsquad’s services?

This is something we talk about all the time at Glamsquad. We view each appointment as an experience as opposed to a transactional service. During an appointment, our goal is to create a third space with the client so they no longer feel like they are hosting the beauty professional. Rather, they’re collaborating with him/her to create this shared “sacred space.” We consciously consider our protocol for every step of the in-home experience, from the beauty professional taking off their shoes before entering the home to the consultation we provide prior to the service. This is only the beginning as we plan for many more exciting updates to the Glamsquad experience through the end of the year.

What sets Glamsquad apart from other companies in the same beauty space?

At Glamsquad, we are creating a new civil beauty contract focused on how you feel, which then informs how you look. As digital distractions continue to replace human interaction, our goal is to retain the concept of human touch and connection that everyone innately craves. By creating a connected beauty experience between our clients and our beauty professionals, we strive to empower each as a beauty enthusiast within our community.

What are your future plans for the company?

Right now, we are focusing on readying the business for hyper-growth with exciting plans including new markets, new services, tech updates and large-scale partnerships. Adding to our NYC, Miami, LA and DC markets, we launched in Boston in March and in the San Francisco/Bay Area in June, and we’re gearing up for 20 more markets over the next three years. In terms of services, we pay careful attention to what the customers request — everything from brows to Botox. With them in mind, we are curating what will be next for the brand when it comes to services offered. Most recently, we launched an eye patch add-on service with Erno Laszlo, and are considering more services rolling out this fall. On the technology side, we are improving our ability to connect beauty enthusiasts by expertly matching beauty professionals and clients to guarantee a curated, personalized experience. There is much more to come, and many more exciting announcements this fall.
