With The Second Collection, Martyre Says Thank You to Their Fans

Since launching unisex jewelry line Martyre just a few months ago, Anwar Hadid and Yoni Laham have been quickly embraced by the industry.

“It’s been pretty overwhelming, but great,” admitted Laham. “It’s great that our friends support it, but even better that countless stores have reached out and want to carry our brand”.

It doesn’t hurt that these “friends” include Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber, but this accounts for only a small fraction of their success. The business, which explores the largely uncharted territory of unisex jewelry, has resonated with eager consumers looking for something new to identify with. Now, the designers are building on this momentum with the release of Collection 2, called “Don’t Forget Us.”

An extension of their first drop, the collection continues to pair sleek minimal pieces like sculptural earrings and stackable bracelets with more intricate designs that incorporate intricate engravings and strong symbolism – often inspired by religious iconography.

“We’re not a religious brand, but we have strong faith,” Hadid explained. “The underlying theme in everything we do is faith and belief. Not necessarily belief in a specific thing, but believing in yourself, and just having faith in general. This is one of the ways we chose to express that.”

While the brand ultimately celebrates this sense of spirituality and community, “Don’t Forget Me” explores a darker side. “We live in fear of being forgotten. Everything gets old so quickly, that everyone has a sense of feeling forgotten,” said Laham.

Perhaps that’s why the designers want to create something that lasts with Martyre. Their highly personal designs have clearly resonated, and with their second collection – which includes a selection of tees (their first foray into clothing) – is their way of saying thank you to their fans.

“This collection is out of respect to the people that have been buying into the brand and DM’ing us non-stop asking for new stuff. This is us saying thank you.” explained Laham.

Although the designers share big dreams for the brand, they are taking things one step at a time. The business is mainly direct-to-consumer with the exception of online retailer SSENSE – although the brand already has a number of wholesalers lined up. When they do expand, rest assured they’ll do it the right way.

“I see Martyre being as big as it can be. I think we have a lot of space to cover and a lot of different areas we can explore. We’re excited, but we also want to do right by the customers. We have a lot of great ideas, but we just want to make sure we execute them correctly,” said Hadid.

Laham added, “We’d love to expand into multiple categories, but we want to do everything properly. If you were able to be wearing Martyre, then sitting on Martyre, then sleeping on Martyre – even be smelling Martyre, that’s our dream. To take over a room…but obviously that’s super far down the line. We look forward to tackling everything one step at a time.”
