“I actually get to see a lot of Americans in Paris,” said Jason Wu, “because I can go out more here than in New York where I am always working.”
The designer was at CFDA and Vogue’s Americans in Paris cocktail, the must-attend event of Paris Fashion Week which provides buyers and editors with the opportunity to meet America’s top emerging designers.
Saturday evening’s cocktail took place at the showcase on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré on Saturday evening. Steven Kolb, Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg kicked off the party, which brought out a top fashion crowd that included Emily Ratajkowski, Jourdan Dunn, Devon Windsor, Riley Montana, Grace Coddington, Babi Ahluwalia, Barbara Bush, Greg Chait, Aurelie Bidermann, Peter Pilotto, Mara Hoffman, and Pamela Love, among others.
“It’s a family,” von Furstenberg, the CFDA Chairwoman, said. “It’s wonderful. They get more and more exciting and beautiful. I love them!”
Karlie Kloss, who c0-hosted the party with Instagram’s Eva Chen and Vogue‘s Mark Holgate, was a vision in white from her platinum hair down to the Adam Selman pajama and men’s shirt-inspired gown ensemble.
“I was excited to see Jason because he and I are both 10-years into our career,” she said. “It’s amazing. We were freshman at the same time.”
Kloss was meeting many of the designers of this Americans in Paris group (speaking of freshmen) in person for the first time.
Eva Chen, a new addition to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Selection Committee, co-hosted the event for the first time. “You’ve got to support Americans,” said Chen, who was in a sequined Altuzarra dress for the occasion.
Guests milled about the various salons sipping Perrier-Jouët from chic painted flutes, and admiring the collections from Adam Selman, Area, Chloe Gosselin, Ji Oh, KREWE New Orleans Eyewear, Morgan Lane, Brock Collection, NewbarK, and Rochambeau.
Many cocktail conversations extended to Paris experiences. Designer Mara Hoffman was showing off a vintage store treasure she found – a stunning pair of Mexican-made white cowboy boots – to Adam Selman. Ken Downing, meanwhile, caught up with Gypsy Sport’s Rio Uribe, both reminiscing about the moment the designer was named a winner of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
Joseph Altuzarra left his own post-show cocktail to stop in and say hello to everyone. “I love this cocktail, it’s really fun. My company is based in New York City and I am still a part of that community, so I wanted to come show my support,” he said. “I’m an American in Paris too!”
The Americans in Paris showroom is open through Monday, October 2, from 11am-6pm.
