Thom Browne has a new partner in Ermenegildo Zegna Group.
On Tuesday, the luxury Italian fashion house announced it is taking an 85 percent stake in the American brand for $500 million.
CFDA member Browne will continue as Chief Creative Officer.
“Their passion for only the best quality and craftsmanship is very much aligned with how I have always approached my collections,” Browne said. “My conceptual approach to design and the long-term vision of growing a true luxury design-led collection for men and women is something we both feel strongly about as the future strength of Thom Browne.”
Zegna will help amplify and expand the business, which will remain independently run in order to preserve the company’s existing infrastructure.
Ermenegildo Zegna, CEO of the Zegna Group, added: “As global leaders in luxury menswear, we have always been open to opportunities for external growth. And, since we started looking at partnerships, I always knew that Thom Browne would be the perfect fit. Finally, I am very proud to oversee a rare major investment by an Italian luxury player in an American company. I have always been a strong admirer of the United States, and look forward to our strengthened presence here.”
Though still mainly known for his tailored gray suits, Browne has also been making waves with theatrical runway shows and humorous designs. In addition to menswear, he offers accessories and womenswear. Recent collaborations included custom suits for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and dressing the football team FC Barcelona, as well as teen star Cole Sprouse.
With Zegna’s support, Browne now has the opportunity to expand his brand and reach customers around the world. We can’t wait to see his next moves!
