Victor Glemaud Shares the Inspiration behind his Fitbit Collaboration

September 25, 2020

Nicky Campbell

As part of our continued partnership with Fitbit, Victor Glemaud is the latest designer to put his own signature spin on the brand’s smartwatches. Best known for his bold and colorful knits for women of all shapes and sizes, the designer has translated his designs for the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 styles. With the collaboration, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund alum is able to introduce his signature aesthetic to a new audience of fitness enthusiasts. Here, we caught up with Glemaud to hear more about the inspiration and process behind developing the styles.

What elements did you consider when designing the watch accessories?

Bold colors and patterns synonymous with my brand, and sustainability.  My collection is made with natural yarns that I knew wouldn’t be possible here, so recycled materials would be necessary.

What was your favorite part about this project?

I was excited to collaborate with Fitbit because the idea of combining technology with knitwear felt exhilarating.  I was inspired by movement. And once Fitbit introduced me to REPREVE®, that was when the real fun began creatively.

Why is health and wellness important to you?

Vanity. I want to stay fit, and enjoy looking good in my personal wardrobe for as long as possible.

How do you plan to incorporate the watch into your daily life?

I start most days with virtual mat pilates with my trainer and I also take HIIT classes online two days a week, all wearing my Fitbit.

What are your favorite features of the watch?

I love how the smartwatch tracks all my physical movements. This summer I started surf lessons in Portugal, you can stay in the water and it tracks your physical intensity. I was blown away.

Where do you see the future of the intersection of fashion and technology?

If this NYFW is any indication, fashion and technology will be far more intertwined. From wearables to how we sell and ship our collections, all aspects of fashion will embrace technology. It won’t happen overnight, but it will – I, for one, look forward to it.
