Tory Burch Explores Modernity with a 90s Twist

September 14, 2022

Tory Burch first moved to New York in the 1990s, a time when style ruled the streets along with clean, form-fitted lines, material blocking and mapping. There was an uncompromising sense of  modernity – which anyone who’s ever shopped at Charivari, Barneys, or Linda Dresner can confirm.

Burch looked back at that time for her spring collection. As she put it, “I wanted to look at my signatures with a fresh perspective, reflecting what feels modern now.”

Mission accomplished – especially via the jersey bandeaus that graced many looks. Burch leaned into the 1990s with a subtle hand, from the sheer cotton top teamed with a jersey bandeau and silk chiffon skirt – shown on Emily Ratajkowski – to the wool tunic with the lace and silk lame skirt. Burch worked the Nineties, but she did it in her own unique way.

This was the designer’s most personal collection. Shown against Pier 76’s majestic structure, this was the designer’s most personal collection – and one of her best yet.
