Tory Burch on #TimeOffToVote

“For as long as I can remember, politicians on both sides of the aisle have lamented that Americans do not show up to the polls in larger numbers on Election Day,” Tory Burch wrote in the Opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal this week.

In the piece, Burch encouraged to give employees time off to vote on Nov.8, which, in her own words, will “not only facilitate their participation in our democratic system—a net win for all of us—it will also foster a culture in which the importance of voting is recognized and celebrated.”

Democracy and the right to vote are clearly very important to the designer and CFDA Board Member—a point she underscored when she recently participated in the CFDA and Condé Nast campaign with the message to “Register to Vote, and VOTE.”

As Burch said in the Wall Street Journal, “When we choose not to vote—when we chose not to facilitate voting by the broadest numbers of people possible—we risk weakening our democracy.

As the CEO of a company, I can ensure that our employees have one less impediment to voting—time off to vote. We are giving our employees time off on Election Day, Nov. 8, and we are making voter registration materials and information available. We call on our fellow corporate citizens to do the same.”

And get out the vote! “I’ll see you at the polls,” said Burch.
