Like all major events, the 2020 CFDA Fashion Awards were indefinitely postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we won’t be hosting a live event this year, we are still taking the time to honor American fashion’s top creatives. In the lead-up to announcing the winners on September 14th, we are reminiscing about past awards and asked members of our fashion family to share their favorite moments. Today, we share some top behind-the-scenes moments from fashion’s top stylists.

Mickael Carpin

“The new ‘Pocahontas’ is getting ready for the CFDA. Disney and especially “Pocahontas” was my inspiration. Matching nude with natural straight hair, to pretend she came straight from the Amazonie to attend the event! Her custom dress Angelys Balek x Anna Dello Russo with matching gloves was my idea. I wanted the full look to be thought like modern armor. De Grisogono Haute Joaillerie white gold with diamonds and emerald, earrings and ring. Black satin heels by Christian Louboutin who arrived an hour before our departure. (lots of stress and calls to NY and Paris offices, as we decide to change the shoes at the last minute. I broke my little toe the night before my departure from Paris to NY, pain was at maximum but the show must go on.”

“My absolute favorite look from the now closed Sies Marjan. This was a detail shot of how we knew we wanted the look to hang and this is a getting ready image of Laura and I. We had just come off her Cannes tour for BlacKkKlansman and were excited for her to wear something more androgynous and tough.”
