Bloggers covering the collections in real time, new technology allowing runway live streams, global warming, and an out-of-sync retail cycle…. Is the fashion show system in need of an Rx? The question prompted us to launch a study with The Boston Consulting Group to gauge the future of fashion week. Released in March and available here, it concluded that the time is ripe for a seismic shift. The most critical issues that emerged were in-season relevancy, delivery cycles, and subsequent markdown cadence. Change is everywhere. This year, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford, Thakoon, and Rebecca Minkoff embraced the new wave of see-now, buy-now. More are expected to follow suit in 2017.
