When it comes to social impact, TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie is an industry pioneer. The CFDA member’s latest initiative, Stand for Tomorrow, perfectly makes the point.

It evolves the giving model, which Mycoskie launched in 2006, to allow customers to address the world’s most pressing issues by picking an issue they stand for. TOMS will then give to that issue.

According to a company statement, “The world around us is changing, and the issues facing our communities are more complex than ever. These changes have prompted TOMS to think about their opportunity and obligation to evolve their impact strategy and overall giving model to address some of the most pressing issues of today.”

Customers of the brand can go on the TOMS.com and “Pick your Style. Pick your Stand” – meaning they can select an issue from six options that is key to them, and make sure that their purchase contributes to it. The areas they can choose from are shoe giving, safe water, ending gun violence, the homeless, mental health, or equality. Each stand is tied to a role model: singer/songwriter Aijia for women’s rights; author and activist : Blair Imani for equality; activist Mari Copeny aka Little Miss Flint for safe water; co-founder of clothing brand HoMie Marcus Crook for the homeless; singer/songwriter MILCK  for mental health, and activist/ youth leader Winter BreeAnne Minisee for ending gun violence.

As TOMS continues to assess important issues, this list is likely to grow. Stay tuned, and change the world!
