In partnership with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, legendary jeweler Tiffany & Co. recently asked past finalists to design a collection inspired by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum. Vanderbilt Whitney was not just a doyenne of the arts and New York society, she  was also a sculptor.

Eddie Borgo’s design entry best evoked Vanderbilt Whitney’s style and spirit. He was awarded the opportunity to work with Tiffany design director Francesca Amfitheatrof on the seven-piece capsule collection. It includes sculptural, 18-karat gold designs, including a collar necklace, ring, bracelet, ear cuff and pendant. A pearl bar pin and linear pearl drop earrings round out the assortment.

“Eddie took the notion of creating a trousseau of jewelry inspired by the haute bohemian sensibility of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney to an entirely new level,” Amfitheatrof said. “Just as Greek sculptors were able to create the illusion of soft, flowing drape with the hardest marble, Eddie’s pieces brought a fluidity and ease to gold.”

As Borgo put it, “Bringing the worlds of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Tiffany & Co., and my young New York-based firm together was no easy task. The ease in the design finally came in the simplicity of the idea: the combination of Gertrude’s elegant draped sculptures, Tiffany’s legacy in American metalsmithing and jewelry design with our modern, classic pieces for a woman of today.”

The capsule collection will be available at the Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue flagship store and at Tiffany.com for a limited time.
