It’s been two years since Thom Browne took his show to Paris. Lucky for the fashion industry – and some midtown pedestrians – the designer was back – sort of – with an outdoor presentation on the edge of Central Park over the weekend. Titled Officepeople, the designer orchestrated a performance to celebrate the arrival of his womenswear collection at Bergdorf Goodman, and clearly New York made sense for the occasion.
Browne welcomed guests and passersby into his fantasy world with the help of 20 models dressed in his signature gray uniform suiting, brogues, and briefcases. After arriving on a Thom Browne-branded yellow school bus, the models moved in military fashion up and down Fifth Avenue to the tune of a trombonist, then headed to the specialty store’s third floor for an intimate cocktail party – to the delight of guests such as Cameron Dallas, Natalia Dyer, Richie Shazam, and Maisie Williams.
Browne may continue to reveal his new collections in Paris, but this was a good reminder that there is no place like home.
