When Iris Apatow stepped on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party this year, the Internet ignited with a firestorm of users asking “who made her dress?” The answer: Queens-born Colin Locascio, the young talent making waves in New York fashion. His appeal, so perfectly illustrated by Apatow, is how the clothes stand out. Locascio leans into over-the-top, campy designs characterized by maximalist textures and 3-D fabricated art. Sequins, feathers, and flowers frequently adorn his creations that speak to Gen-Z fashion lovers who want to express themselves through their clothing.

We spoke with the CVFF designer to learn more about him and his work.

What is your earliest fashion memory?

One particular memory was when my grandmother gifted me a matching velvet button-down pajama shirt and velvet pants with navy piping. The pajamas were an ecru base with brown teddy bears and pink/red plaid squares all over it. I felt so powerful and invincible in those pajamas I didn’t want to take them off, and eventually wore them ‘til they were threadbare.

What was your reaction to finding out you were a finalist?

I still remember exactly where I was when I got the FaceTime call from Aurora James. It was pure excitement and I quickly got incredibly emotional. I think I cried through the whole phone call with Aurora and Allie.

How would you describe your label? 

Whimsy infused with NYC Grit.

What is a specific area of focus you are looking for help with? 

Building out the DTC business, utilizing social media to further connect with our customer globally and further pushing the brand in a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Is there a goal or milestone you would like to accomplish with your brand in the future? 

I would love to have our own brick-and-mortar, in my hometown of NYC.
