After inspiring speeches from Gloria Steinem, Janelle Monae, Cecile Richards and more at the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards Monday night, the crowd was ready to blow off some steam. Not long after Eryn Allen Kane finished her powerful set on stage at the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom uptown, the official after-party at Samsung 837 downtown came to a boil.

Hosted by the Swarovski Emerging Designer Nominees – Virgil Abloh, Laura Vassar Brock and  Kris Brock, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, Gabriela Hearst, and Sander Lak—each designer showed up with their own posse of friends and fans—Jenna Lyons, Christian Siriano, Jonathan Simkhai and the Haim sisters were among the revelers. Jidenna performed. Pat McGrath, who had been honored with the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert, let out a shriek of joy when she ran into Kate Bosworth. “Hello love, oh I love you so much,” McGrath said.

It was also a chance to unwind and catch up some light-hearted gossip.

“Oh my god, I was sitting next to James Franco at the ceremony,” said Hari Nef.

“Oh really? How was he?” asked Demna Gvasalia, his interest piqued.

Such spirit of geniality and friendship permeated the evening. Overheard: Gabriela Hearst telling her chums how proud she was to dress Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards. For the most part, the honorees spotted in the crowd were still riding the evening’s high.  “It feels so weird,” said Fernando Garcia, who took home the Swarovski Emerging Designer award alongside Laura Kim. “We were ready to lose.”

The celebrations continued through the night, with some making their way to the Standard Hotel, High Line— which is conveniently located just across the street from Samsung 837.
