COVID-19 CRISIS

The CFDA Guide to Working from Home

March 30, 2020

Under strict government mandate, millions of Americans across all industries are now practicing social distancing and finding themselves working from home. For fashion folks, it’s a strange reality to adjust to in an industry accustomed to mega-runway shows, events, photo shoots, and large office meetings (and social gatherings, of course). With COVID-19 still posing a severe threat to society, it seems as though working from home will be the new normal for a while. To help you get adjusted, we’ve compiled some tips for staying productive.

Continue Your Routine

While it may be easy to skip a shower and remain in your pajamas,  try to “get ready” as if you were headed to the office. Change your clothes and make yourself breakfast in order to provide structure, and start your day as you normally would.

Stick to Regular Work Hours

Just because your home is now your office doesn’t mean you should always be working. Maintain your regular work hours, and try not to work into all hours of the night.

Take Breaks

Don’t deprive yourself of a lunch break, and step away from the computer if you’ve been staring at for too long to maintain clarity.

Check in with your Co-Workers

From FaceTime to Zoom, there are many accessible platforms that make it easy to stay connected. Make sure to keep your regular staff or team meetings in order to check in for updates and to keep each other informed.

Go Outside

Practicing social distancing doesn’t mean you have to remain inside all day. Maintaining a 6-feet distance from others, feel free to go for a stroll around the block for some fresh air and to clear your mind.

Stimulate Your Mind

With gyms closed, there are many ways to keep your body and mind energized. Use what would be your work commute to practice an online at-home workout tutorial, or try practicing meditation.

Keep Tidy

Try to make your bed, clean your dishes, and stay organized while inside. It might be easy to let household chores wait a while, but staying organized will prevent distraction.

Turn off the TV

It might seem harmless to keep the TV on in the background, but try to shut off as much background noise as possible to stay focused on your current projects.
