The Black Design Collective has been making its mark on fashion since it was founded by bona fide costume designer Ruth E. Carter and designers Angela Dean, Kevan Hall, and TJ Walker. This American Collections season, the Collective turned to RUNWAY360 to present nine of its talents via a Global Showcase. These include CFDA members Kevan Hall and Byron Lars of his Earnest by Byron Earnest Lars collection, whose explored an Afro-Victorian theme via printed guipure, laser cut fringe and clipped jacquards.
Hall celebrated the initiative with a cocktail party on Zoom. The Black Design Collective was created for industry professionals of color “who seek to amplify the influence of and create opportunities for the community of Black apparel and accessory designers and costume designers within the U.S. and abroad” – with its mission centered on scholarship, mentorship, and entrepreneurship.
