CFDA Member Brooke Garber Neidich didn’t have to think twice when asked what brought her to The Carlyle on Monday.

“Stellene,” the fine jewelry designer said. “I love Stellene.”

She was referring to Stellene Volandes, the Editor-in-Chief of Hearst’s Town & Country magazine, who co-hosted the T & C Modern Swans of the Year dinner with Bulgari that evening.

Garber Neidich wasn’t the only CFDA friend at the intimate event. Meredith Melling, Indre Rockefeller, Lily Aldridge, Claire Distenfeld, and Kate Betts were also on hand to celebrate this year’s anointed Swans, who included Caroline Vreeland, Danielle Lauder, and Alessandra Balazs.

“My daughter was a Modern Swan last year,” Garber Neidich said. “She was the Boho Swan, without make-up and wrapped in a blanket.”

Volandes explained the genesis of the annual Swans coronation: “We came upon a passage from Truman Capote in which he describes these beautiful creatures he calls Swans…a group of women with great beauty, who deserved not only attention but also admiration. They are women who have intelligence, strength and a modern elegance. That is really what Town & Country is all about.”

Asked what type of Swan she is, Volandes had to think for a second. “ I think at this point,” she said, “I’d be a Media Swan.”
