Back in 2017, the CFDA and Cartoon Network partnered to to find ways to celebrate the final season of Adventure Time. When Cartoon Network executives saw the Landlord New York show in February 2018, they knew they had found a designer to bring the series and its characters alive.

Landlord’s Ryohei Kawanishi commissioned oil paintings to serve as fantasy worlds for the hit animated series’ characters. They would would be part of the capsule collection. Cult favorites like Lemonhead, Finn and Jake, and BMO made their runway debut at Cadillac House during the July 2018 season of NYFW: Men’s.

“I went back for my inspiration to what I was watching when I was a child, those memories, the nostalgia of the 90s,” recalled Kawanishi, whose collections are designed and manufactured in New York.

“We’re actually telling that American fashion story to a greater audience, and also supporting the mission of the CFDA which is to promote American fashion in a global economy.”

Take an inside look at the collection’s production, Landlord’s runway show, and the CFDA Fashion Manufacturing Initiative, and see the Adventure Time characters come to life on Landlord’s runway.
