Tiffany Huang, who hails from Taiwan, is deeply influenced by her upbringing on an island, the thrill of exploration, and a “spirit of adventure.” Huang, who holds degrees from Parsons School of Design and Central St. Martins, is continually searching for new materials through which to reinvent the possibilities for how we tell stories about ourselves.
In 2016, Huang won the Kering x Vogue.com Empowering Imagination award and was selected as a CFDA+ Design Graduate. She’s currently an innovator-in-residence at XRC Labs.
Her latest project, Itchyitchy, creates interactive clothing combining fashion and textile design with augmented and virtual reality. This fall, with the support of LIFEWTR, Huang will present a collection of characters called “Umbrella Ghosts” as a way of sharing cultural fears and superstitions with a wider audience. Scanning the AR triggers on the prints of each garment in the collection will unlock virtual world in which ghosts can seem lively and fun, and we see our world anew. Through collections like this, Huang hopes to “turn clothing into an even more engaging and interactive experience.”
Huang’s passion for creating groundbreaking textiles and clothing experiences inspires us not only to be adventurous and playful—precisely the spirit of LIFEWTR’s mission to promote art and creativity. But more than that, her work allows us to transcend into new worlds.
