Sanderlak Pops Up in Chinatown

May 20, 2026

Marc Karimzadeh

Chinatown is ready for Sanderlak’s multi-color invasion.

Through June 11th, designer Sander Lak has a residency at 2 East Broadway, which brings together the CFDA member’s complete fashion vision under one roof.

The 1,000 square foot unit, across the street from Gabriela Hearst’s cool Bar Oliver, showcases the collection along with books and other objects that speak to Lak’s fashion sensibility.

“It feels open while still being intimate and personal,” said Lak, who received the CFDA’s Emerging Designer of the Year award for Sies Marjan in 2018 and has been a CFDA member since. (Lak’s career also took him to Phillip Lim and Balmain, as well as five years designing men’s and womenswear at Dries Van Noten).

He launched his Sanderlak during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in 2025, and we love everything about it.

How did the idea for the pop-up come about and what appealed to you about the space?

Gia Kuan, who does our PR, has her office in the same building and told us these spaces downstairs were available. We went to take a look and immediately fell in love with it. We’ve done a few shorter pop-ups in New York and LA before that were always really successful, so we got excited about trying something longer term. The location, light, and energy of Chinatown just felt perfect for it.

What inspired the interior? What are key elements? How does the store compliment your design aesthetic?

Whenever we do a pop-up, I love bringing in pieces from my own home and things I’ve collected over the years, then mixing them with what already exists in the space. It’s always about responding to the environment and finding ways to highlight or transform it while keeping its spirit intact. I love temporary spaces, because every one becomes a new creative challenge.

I feel very confident in the Sanderlak aesthetic, so no matter the space, we can make it feel like our world. Last time we even transformed a nail salon in four hours, and it somehow completely worked.

What are the key looks available in the residency?

We have the full first collection available at the store, which is exciting because while amazing partners like Net-a-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman, and SSENSE carry parts of the collection, this is the only place to experience the full range together.

Pieces that have been selling especially well (and are almost gone) are the pine and pink denim pants, the leather jackets, and the oversized shirts in different colors. We’re also selling a curated selection of secondhand books, including first editions, select furniture pieces, and LA-sourced vintage that inspired the collection.

How does the store tell the story of your brand?

The three pillars of the brand are color, texture, and fit, and the space reflects all of those things. The colors really pop; there’s texture everywhere through the clothes and furniture, and even the unusual layout mirrors the way we think about silhouette and fit. Walking into the space feels like stepping into the world of Sanderlak.

What’s next for Sander Lak?

We have some really exciting things coming. In the next few days, we’re releasing a special project created with friends of the brand. Then, in June, we’ll launch the new location-inspired Collection 3. And beyond that, there are a few things I can’t talk about just yet.
