For her New York Fashion Week debut, Sami Miro stayed true to her roots. The self-taught designer grew up reworking pieces she thrifted from vintage shops in San Francisco before starting her namesake line. Her DIY design process, which includes cutting up and reworking classic silhouettes, have since made their way onto it-girls including Kylie Jenner and Rosalia.
This season, she put her design process front and center. Denim and leather cutout blazers, dresses, and tops chopped and altered by Miro made their way down the runway with flair. The standout moment: Miro herself emerging from backstage with scissors in hand to give the audience a glimpse into her process, by cutting a pair of pants effortlessly into a flowing gown on a model perched on a box in the middle of the catwalk. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund designer proved her commitment to zero-waste and sustainable design practices, and showed she is ready to take her brand to the next level.
