What began as a hobby for Sami Miró has now turned into a full-fledged business. The designer has come a long way since designing looks for herself to wear from her father and brother’s hand-me-downs.

Miró, who was inducted into the CFDA in 2021 and is now a 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist, also made the front page of WWD ahead of her NYFW debut in September. Her profile is rising steadily, as she continues to make waves in the industry as a brand to watch.

What is your earliest fashion memory?

Around the age of 10, I started putting my innate imagination of what fashion could be to my father and brother’s hand-me-downs. From creating with nothing but scissors and safety pins, I began my journey into designing my one-of-a-kind pieces.

What was your reaction to finding out you were a finalist?

Honestly, so honored and excited to be part of this talented group of finalists and part of the historical CVFF designer community and program. To be recognized for the work Sami Miró Vintage is doing by the CVFF is truly a milestone moment for me.

How would you describe your label?

Sami Miró Vintage leads with innovation through design and creativity, all through the lens of eco-consciousness and ethical approaches in fashion. We design, create, and operate as a force in both design and activism.

What is a specific area of focus you are looking for help with?

As our business and team are growing, our focus right now is in two areas – expanding our more responsible textile and materials range and expanding on how we communicate our transparency along our more sustainable journey.

Is there a goal or milestone you would like to accomplish with your brand in the future?

We would like to partner with brands and companies across industries collaborating on designing into any wastage and excess within their supply chain. We feel excited to expand our Sami Miró Vintage design and business approaches with others.

The 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists will be announced at the 2023 Vogue Forces of Fashion on October 19th.
