Universal Pictures stole our hearts when they introduced The Minions, those bespectacled, yellow, and totally lovable creatures that lit up the big screen and made everyone smile. Their appeal extended far beyond that of children, and the Despicable Me franchise quickly drew a fan base of all ages. So, it may come as no surprise that their fun-loving charisma and signature cheery color palette founds its way into the fashion world.
In partnership with Illumination Entertainment and NBCUniversal Brand Development, CFDA Member and footwear designer Ruthie Davis has created a Minion-inspired capsule collection, Ruthie <3 Minions, with three distinct styles: RDXMIN Pop Star Platform, RDXMIN Red Carpet Stiletto, and RDXMIN Sneaker Wedge. The Minions’ influence can be seen in the details, from the bright Italian kidskin leather insole and goggled eye found on the heel, to small decals on the Lucite crafted platform. The effect is charming and chic, fun and fashionable.
Asked to elaborate on her inspiration for the collection and what excited her most, Davis said, “I’ve always loved the supernatural and am so inspired by fun, youthful, cute things in my shoe designs. But I also like to add a little edge or irreverence. This is why designing a capsule collection inspired by the Minions is a dream come true for me. They are colorful and adorable but very mischievous!”
The capsule, she explained, “is totally chic and high fashion for a woman who doesn’t take herself too seriously and likes to have a laugh.” The collection is available exclusively at Gregory’s at Fred Segal in Los Angeles and at gregorysshoes.com.
