Ready for the Rio Olympics with Scosha

August 5, 2016

For CFDA Member Scosha Woolridge, the Rio Summer Olympics are a case of coming full circle in more ways than one.

The Australia native grew up an athlete and was training for the Olympics, but never ended up participating. In 2000, right after the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Woolridge decided to embark on a new adventure:  She went backpacking for four years, and while in Northern Brazil, where she learned macramé knotting technique. During the day, she would employ this technique and strong together seeds that she sold at the local night market—providing the base for her jewelry business.

The Olympics and Brazil carry special meaning for the designer—and now, she is able to channel both into one special design. Woolridge was selected by the Ralph Lauren Corp. to create a bracelet for the official Team USA Olympic uniform that Lauren designed for the Olympic Games in Rio. Key to the partnership was that the piece was completely sourced and manufacturing in the U.S. and Woolridge passed the test – the bracelet was sampled and developed in Scosha’s Brooklyn studio and manufactured in New York.

“Ralph Lauren is a wonderful company and it’s aligned with our values,” Woolridge said. “It’s an honor to work with Ralph Lauren. For me, it’s also a way to come full circle.”

The braided style can be purchased at Ralph Lauren. Read more on Woolridge’s journey to the Olympics through her bracelet here.
