The Hamptons have been important to Ralph Lauren since the 1970s when he started summering here with his family.

“I love the ocean, the salty breezes, the rustic shingled cottages, the lighthouses, the quality of light that drew so many artists here,” he said of this rarefied stretch of Long Island leading to magical Montauk, where the Laurens currently keep a home.

On Thursday, the breeze in a tent at the Khalily horse stable was indeed as pleasant as the collection itself- a cool riff of Lauren’s Americana codes reworked in new, captivating ways for both Collection and Polo. Standouts included denim patchwork looks with the occasional hippie vibe, sporty pieces with subtle street influences, lace and eyelet, shirt dresses and an ultra-chic combo of a ribbed tank top with a sequined floor-length skirt.

The perfect casting – from Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington to the most adorable kids – accentuated the elegant yet languid vibe, perfect for an endless summer out east. In a word, breathtaking.
