R13 Celebrates 10 Years with a Bang

It’s been 10 years since Chris Leba embarked on the challenging journey of launching his own collection, but to him, it still feels like he’s just getting started.

“I can’t believe it!” Leba exclaimed, backstage after his show. “It still feels like it was just yesterday we started this.”

Perhaps that’s because over the years, the brand has managed to stay true to its roots: a rebellious spirit defined by punk-rock cool.

Leba is completely synched with contemporary culture. While walking by the local skate park next to where he lives and works in Brooklyn, the designer found inspiration in the clothing and essence of skate culture. For Spring-Summer 2020, Leba showed bucket hats, low-hanging pants styled over colorful boxer shorts, and loud prints paired with even louder ones as models came down the runway to the tune of the Beastie Boys.

At its core, the staying power of R13 can be attributed to Leba’s ability to infuse his youthful energy into classic silhouettes.

“There’s thing about timelessness that I’m really into. I know that R13 on the surface doesn’t look timeless, but a lot of the pieces are very iconic – camp shirts, suiting, tuxedos. It’s all very classic,” he said.
