Punk Rock Meets Impressionism in Jonathan Cohen’s Spring Collection

September 10, 2023

There’s more to flowers than meets the eye. For Spring 2024, Jonathan Cohen made that point, showing new takes on signature florals via an infusion of Punk Rock and Impressionist painting. Think roses with subtle thorns for darker romance.

Cohen cited Monet, Renoir, Morisot, Patti Smith and CBGB – each revolutionary in their own way – in his show notes, and the venue choice, the legendary Hotel Chelsea, underscored the vibe.

Cohen’s tailored suits and cutout dresses with new painterly effects were indeed striking and fresh. So were his pleated jackets, pintuck skirts, and black leather separates, including peplum bustier tops and flower-embroidered corset belts. The overall effect was elegant but with a subtle side of subversiveness. Larroudé, Gigi Burris, and Péro collaborated on the looks with Cohen, and live acoustic music renditions from Siouxie and the Banshees, Hole, Fiona Apple, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, enhanced the presentation experience.
