During New York Fashion Week: Women’s in September, Phillip Lim celebrated his 10th anniversary with a show themed “Stop and Smell the Flowers” replete with a memorable set featuring a sculptural soil installation of seven earth mountains by Maya Lin. The CFDA Member marked his milestone with an eye to giving back to New York, the city that allowed him to become the designer he is today. To that end, the 3.1 Phillip Lim team donated their time to re-purpose the soil used in the  runway show.

Lim called the overall theme “a message of gratitude and beauty in the every day. It was important to me that part of this approach included giving back to New York City: our amazing backdrop that gives us light and love in the best and worst of times. After the show, we partnered with The New York Restoration Project to return the soil to a community garden in Washington Heights.”

The community park was the Flores Ramp Meadow in Washington Heights, which is now reaping the benefits of Lim’s show spectacle. “I wanted to encourage our teams to spend a day outside of the office exercising a collective consciousness and team building,” Lim noted, adding that his wish was for the “3.1 tribe to slow down, take a breath, and celebrate the beauty and simplicity of nature.”
