For PH5, it all began with the devastating 2019-20 Australian bushfires.
“With everything happening in the world, this season we share our platform with a group of Indigenous Australian women working with Firesticks Alliance to protest, conserve and enhance cultural and natural values of people and Country through cultural fire and land management practice,” read the opening of the collection film.
The NY-based design duo Zoe Champion of Australia and founder Wei Lin of China redefine knitwear each season, implementing innovative computer programming that h is key to their intricate patterns and treatment of yarns. For this collection, symbolisms of flame and blaze were present throughout, appearing as motifs that pay homage to the Fire Spirit – the white benign smoke that brings healing and creates connection to their ancestors.
Filmed on Awabakal Land, the collection acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia in an homage to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
