#NYFWM Ambassador Spotlight: Kelly Oubre Jr.

July 13, 2017

Marc Karimzadeh

Kelly Oubre Jr. may be a professional NBA player for the Washington Wizards, but he’s sure had a taste of the fashionable life. Off-court, he interned at Esquire magazine in New York. We spoke to Oubre Jr about his personal style, love for fashion, and more.

Personal Style:

  1. Rockstar
  2. Rico “Papi” Suave some days
  3. New Age Michael Jackson style inspo
  4. Extra
  5. Dark (Black and white)

Fashion Favorites:

Rick Owens – his dark character, his lucid vibe is transparent in his clothing, dark-themed abstract pieces really stand out to me. Men’s and women’s fashion is very out of the ordinary but very simple at the same time. (Adidas fam)

Raf Simons –  the way he incorporates the artistry into his already complex looks, blends perfectly for the young and the old generations who understand the importance of the simple, but out of the ordinary fashion. (Also tied in with Adidas)

Yves Saint Laurent – from their Chelsea boots to their shiny, studded shirts, leather pants …Everything about YSL brings me satisfaction every time I wear a piece of their clothing. Because I know I am the best dressed in WHATEVER room I’m in.

Supreme – the skateboard, chill, lazy but so exclusive pieces often have me spending a lot of my money on anything that says Supreme , from accessories to clothing. And all of their collabs never seem to flop.

Vans – the classical look of the skater shoes

Chrome Hearts – every accessory they make, I love…rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I love how they incorporate the fleur-de-lis in their creations. Being from New Orleans, I take pride in representing that beautiful logo. Anything with a fleur-de-lis on is almost a must-have.

Cartier, Acne Studio, Charme , YSL and Dior shades are always attractive to me.

NYFW Prep: Being at home looking and researching different designers, putting together looks for myself, buying different items from all the designers who are displaying their creations this week – simply showing love and also supporting their movement. Learning a little bit from everyone’s creativity.

Why I Love Fashion: I love how I can express myself in every detail of clothing or accessory I wear. From glasses to chains, rings , grills and high-end to low-end fashion. I love expressing myself the way I want to through what I wear on my body on a daily basis. Even on a chill day. I’m Fly. I feel I can make anything look good.

My tattoos, my hair, my VIBE, my style, my HUMILITY and confidence at the same time…My head- turning appearance. Don’t think I’m better than the next man, but I do challenge all my competitors to step their game up every time I step into the building. That’s with fashion, basketball, photography… everything. That pushes me to be great. And hopefully others as well, in a positive way – us pushing each other in a positive light to better ourselves for the greater good of the industry. Hopefully that makes the world a better place day by day as well. I LOVE FASHION as much as I love basketball.
