NYFW Talent Watch: Kallmeyer

February 7, 2023

Nicky Campbell

Daniella Kallmeyer had an early love of fashion. Born in South Africa, Kallmeyer spent summers in New York as a child learning to sew from her grandmother Rena. She got her first internship in fashion at 16, then headed to London College of Fashion to receive her Bachelor’s degree (with honors). After working for Proenza Schouler and Alexander McQueen, her namesake label launched in 2011 to great acclaim. With a slot on the Official New York Fashion Week Schedule, Kallmeyer is one to watch. Get a hint of what’s to come below!

Kallmeyer Pre-Fall 2023

How would you describe your label?

Kallmeyer is an elevated wardrobing brand dedicated to modern, sustainable design through quality, utility, and design longevity. Focusing on tailoring, Kallmeyer specializes in suiting and versatile staples made with primarily deadstock fabrics, recycled yarns, and small batch production.

What does it mean to you to be on the Official NYFW this season?

After building Kallmeyer for over a decade with the intimacy and support of our customers and community, it’s exciting to share our growth and success through the lens of the greater fashion industry

Can you describe your collection inspiration? What should we expect?

Our Fall-Winter 2023 is inspired by the tension between tradition and uniformity – from Dead Poets Society to the Paris 1968 student protests and 1940s American high school girls protesting dress codes which prohibited slacks…the contrasting aesthetic between elite pedigree academia and the humble modesty of vintage uniforms… deadstock cashmere long coats, shrunken blazers, ties, and collegiate colors… layers of modern spin on a traditional wardrobe for thought leaders, artists, and anarchists alike…. rich in textures and tailored silhouettes for sophisticated style, made up of essential pieces to dress a sophisticated mind.
